Common Chemicals Affecting Air Quality

- Formaldehyde – Found in many new building materials, such as carpeting, press wood products like particle board and plywood paneling, paints, adhesives, floor finishes, and varnishes, this chemical can have toxic effects on the nasal cavities, throat, and gastrointestinal tract when inhaled or ingested.
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) – When released by paints, cleaners, adhesives, copy machines, printers, or other sources, these compounds can lead to headaches, dizziness, and eye, nose and throat irritation.
